Reiner Knizia's Ra App Reviews

It has been a while since I played the physical version of this game, so I went to check out the rules to refresh myself. Unfortunately I couldnt read all of the rules because they were partially covered with game pieces. Sadly thats not the only problem with the UI. Codito Development seems to have big problems with getting their UI done well and this game is no exception to that. Only get this game if you already know how to play it and love it so much that you can put up with a terrible implementation of the game.

This is a very nice implementation of a great board game. Occasionally, when playing solo against AI opponents, one of the AIs will pause for a while while considering its move. And sometimes, it will just pause forever, and that particular game is just lost, theres no way to jump start it. Thankfully, games of Ra are so fast that its not really the biggest deal, you just start over.

I play tons of board game apps, this one is buggy and broken. Online play does not work, leaving the app and going back to it breaks the current game. Should be taken off the App Store, this is not a functioning app.

Good game overall, VERY buggy, even in current version. App wont even start up and play in local mode anymore after 6 hours of play :(

Just played my first game. I think the end is supposed to TOTAL your scores for the whole game, including epoch 1 and 2 right??? It didnt for me. Worth buying just to get a taste, but not the whole board game you would expect.

Addictive and fast playing.

I have all of knizias games for mobile devices and this is probably the 2nd best one(Tigris and Euphrates being #1). Many board games will lose there appeal fairly quickly, but this game has a lot of replay value. It helps that its in gamecenter, other knizia games like Money, High Society, Masters Gallery and Kingdoms would be much better served if they were in it as well.

I played the board version and fell in love with RA. This app is ok, but with the following bugs. Developer, please fix them. - game crashes when playing from a saved game. - online play mode is just saying "loading" and nothing happens.

The graphics are so awful that I actually feel a little angry. Time was spent on adding distracting details (like "sand" that periodically races across the screen, or tiles that fly around in the background on the rules screen) instead of designing a simple and appealing interface. Some elements were stretched for iPhone 5 optimization, but others werent, so now none of the spaces line up properly, which is confusing and distracting. (Hard to explain but very clear if youre looking at the board.) Almost all of the text is difficult to read because of poor font/color/style choices. The menu doesnt seem to consistently store my selection of turning off game sounds. Im pretty bummed that I spent money on this. I hope they re-skin it and fix the bugs so that I can give it a better rating and enjoy playing. Ive spent many hours playing other iOS strategy games like Stone Age, Puerto Rico, San Juan, Ticket to Ride, Catan, etc., and this is by far the worst. Spend your money elsewhere unless it gets a major makeover!

I love this game so much, but there is a downfall for me. I have an iPhone 4S that I have had for a while. The first time I played this game on my iPhone, it was fine. But since then, whenever I try to enter a local game, It keeps crashing. PLEASE MAKE THIS GAME MORE 4S COMPATIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I play this on an old iPod touch and have no complaints with the graphics or interface.

Personally, board games have usually equated to "bored games", but not this one. The rules are deceptively simple. At first glance it appears more difficult than it is. But I really like this game. If youre considering purchasing this I highly recommend that you do.

Used to love it. Wont play on an iphone6. Graphics glitches everywhere. Customer support email completely unresponsive.

Not sure what other reviewers are complaining about. The game is great, graphics are nearly stunning, and plays seamlessly. My advice to first-time players is to put it down if you get too frustrated, then try it again in a few days.

The app isnt perfect and could use some minor tweaks and improvements but Ive now played over 20 games and I cant believe how much fun this game is. It wouldnt be as much fun if the app didnt work at least well enough to make game play smooth and logical. Great job developers, but please continue to make small adjustments and improvements.

The app looks nice and runs well. I havent had any issues with crashing. However, there are a couple issues. First and most importantly, there is almost no way that the tiles come out in a truly random manner. There have been many games that I have played where the last 8-10 tiles to come out are all Ra tiles. In theory, this is a possibility but the fact that it has happened in Several games makes it apparent that there are issues with randomization. This has never happened to me when I have played on the table yet it seems to happen in 15-20% of the games on the app. This really ruins the game in many ways because it makes the last round largely pointless and annoying to sit through. The second issue is that the AI can be a little slow making turns relative to other games I have played on my iPad. Even with the graphics on the fastest level, it is not particularly fast. This can be annoying - especially during the afore-mentioned scenario where you have to sit through 8-10 consecutive Ra tiles being drawn followed by a round of passing each time.

The game is in itself a masterpiece, and the app reproduces the games dynamics pretty well. But there are serious flaws to the stability of this game electronically. The app constantly force-quits under specific circumstances, like trading a God tile for another tile. This wouldnt be more than a minor inconvenience except for the other flaws in the predictable AI, not to mention the consistent failure of the game to reload a saved format with the same players. All are minor bugs but they consistently hassle those who play. Great game marginalized by shoddy app dynamics.

I dont know when this app broke but it doesnt work anymore. Every time I start a game, it crashes after the first tile. I used to love playing is app. Please fix.
